London Heathrow Airport to Victoria Falls

BACK 10-05-2019

Heathrow to Addis Ababa Flight time

The journey to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe from London Heathrow Airport has been made very simple by the Ethiopian Airways who now have a daily flight connecting the two cities.

I had booked a return flight through Ethopian Airways from Victoria Falls to London a month before my departure and I got a reasonable return ticket prize of £700. After a six weeks holiday in the in London Uk it was time for me to get my return plane to Victoria Falls Zimbabwe via Addis Ababa from Heathrow airport in London.

         At Heathrow Airport

My flight schedule was on the 2nd May 2019 at 21H00 from London Heathrow Airport Terminal 2. I got the underground train from Holborn station on the Jubilee line and rode for 55 mins to the airport from central London. I checked in my two bags weighing 24kilos each in less than 30 mins. I proceeded to security checks which literally took me 15 mins. i had two extra bags with me , my backpack and another handbag and they allowed  me in without extra charges.Having gone through the checks I was already in the boarding lobby enjoying wi-fi.

Boarding Gates opened just after 20H30 hours and there I aboard the ET701 air bus. Take off was delayed by about 35mins but well I was not bothered at all. We left London Heathrow Airport at 21H35. After about an hour in flight dinner was saved and I sat back watching movies throughout the night.

       Addis Ababa Ethopia

We arrived at Addis Ababa at 06H45 local time which of course was 2hrs ahead of London time. Effectively the flight time was 7 hours and 10 mins. I had to change flights in Addis Ababa and my next flight was at 08H35 exactly 2 hours from the time we landed. We departed Addis Ababa on time aboard  Ethopian Airways Bus ET829 again from Terminal 2. This flight takes you across Africa  to Victoria Falls in 4 hours and 40 mins. At 12H15 hours local time I landed in Victoria Falls which was again an hour behind Addis Ababa time.

My total flying time from London Heathrow Airport to Victoria Falls Airport then was 11 hours and 50 mins plus the 2hours stopover time in Addis for the connecting flight. I found this very convenient and thanks to Ethiopian Airways for a very good service.

The travel time was not that bad. On my trip to Zanzibar I would use the Ethiopian airways from Victoria Falls. The Ethiopian airways run a daily circuit from Addis Ababa to Livingstone Zambia, to Victoria Falls Zimbabwe, to Gaborone and back to Addis Ababa Ethiopia. If you are visiting the Victoria Falls you can either use the Livingstone airport or the Victoria Falls airport. On arrival we encourage you to get the KAZA UNIVISA which would allow you to travel to the 3 neighbouring countries in the region.

Zimbabwe and Zambia require a visa on entrance to most European countries and the Americans. The cost of a single-entry visa is USD 30.00 per person. When travelling with a UK passport the cost of the single-entry visa to Zimbabwe will be USD 55.00. To most EU member states citizens the entry into Botswana and Namibia is free. If you should travel to Zimbabwe and proceed to Zambia then at each entry point you are required to pay USD 30.00 that brings the total visa fee to USD 60.00 per person and should you wish to return to Zimbabwe from Zambia that’s an additional USD 30.00 bringing the total fee on visas to USD 90.00.

However, the KAZA visa cuts the costs to only USD 50.00 regardless of how many times you want to travel between the 2 countries Zambia and Zimbabwe.

The KAZA visa is valid for a month and between the two countries Zambia and Zimbabwe you can travel anyhow you want. However, should you go Botswana you would need to be back within the same day of travel or else the visa would be expired. You can do a day visit to Kasane and back to either Zambia or Zimbabwe. You can get the KAZA UNIVISA at the following ports on arrival to Zambia or Zimbabwe:

Kenneth Kaunda International Airport

Harare International Airport

Harry Mwanga Nkumbula International Airport

Victoria Falls International Airport

Kenyan airways also have a daily flight to O.R airport in Johannesburg passing through Victoria Falls on either direction of the journey. So, one can connect from Nairobi if coming from the Americas and travel to Victoria Falls. In addition to these ones South African airways have flights from Johannesburg and Cape Town to Livingstone and Victoria Falls. If you are travelling from the South, it is only 2-hour flights to Victoria Falls. O.R Tambo international airport hosts flights from across the globe and the biggest in Africa. If you are travelling to Southern Africa it is advisable to consider a wide range of flight offers to South Africa.

As I prepare my travel back to Africa from Brussels this time, I have already booked with Qatar airways. I already travelled with Qatar from South Africa when I came here. I enjoyed Qatar’s service. It's a luxury flight to be precise above many other essentials there is wifi onboard, isn't That amazing?
